The brief for new offices in an existing commercial building was to give the essence of a relaxed, comfortable, timeless space. 

 

We were approached by our client who wanted to fitout an existing building to house their offices in the same aesthetic as a country property we had previously designed. There were discussions as to what of the country atmosphere we had achieved previously, was to be adapted for this city factory.

 

We stripped the building back to its bones so we could acknowledge its original function as a knitting factory. The existing steel factory windows were replaced in the same style, surfaces were stripped back. The existing concrete floors were painted and the ceilings lined in recycled boards to ensure there was a warmth and for acoustic control.

 

The result of using Kenstrom Design for this project is that there is a domestic scale for a commercial office within an old factory.
